This short film is a promo to raise funds to complete a longer film the intention of which is to bring forward a therapeutic method and approach which, through process and hands-on work based on the breath, creates conditions for the rediscovery of innocence and choice. The film project aims for social change through developing awareness of how essential thoughts about life can originate and, in support, be chosen and/or released. Featuring therapist and teacher Binnie A Dansby, originator of SOURCE Process and Breathwork, the process is based on work developed in several countries since 1985. The film has been in production since July 2023 and is seeking further funding for: editing support, colour grade, sound dub, archive and music purchase. Shot in the UK as well as Estonia the film has been put together by Elmer Postle with the generous participation of the training group 2023-25. If you or someone you know are able to support us towards the completion and distribution of this film, or would like to know more, please do get in touch.

Full Project Description:
‘Breathing Into Innocence’
a 30 minute film about SOURCE Warm Water Breathwork, a therapeutic approach, featuring therapist and teacher Binnie A Dansby.
The intention of the film is bring forward a therapeutic method and approach which, through process and hands-on work based on the breath, creates conditions for the rediscovery of innocence and choice. The film project aims for social change through developing awareness of how essential thoughts about life can originate and, in support, be chosen or released. Through the work of Binnie A Dansby with her SOURCE Process and Breathwork therapeutic model we discover how innocence is a core, essential state which the conditions and stresses of life may obscure. Childbirth has been seen as a necessarily painful process from a cultural perpective. The physiological, psychological and spiritual challenges of birth in the West can lead to a sense in many, they have done something ‘wrong’ or have hurt someone by being. ‘Hurting Mother’, our core relationship as an infant, through our very arrival can lead to a belief in guilt, as a baseline.
Creating therapeutic conditions of safety and support, exemplified by the work in the warm water, allows all that is unlike safety and support or love to arise and become part of change and release. In the skilled and supportive group, we see professional adults experiencing choice in terms of deeply embedded ideas about themselves. As people heal, so families and society benefit.
Binnie’s interviews unfold this work; we follow her thinking; how helping deliver babies in waterbirth she became a student of Birth. We hear and see adults healing challenges in their lives. The film returns, full cycle, to a birth.
Based on work developed for over forty years in trainings in the UK, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, the film has been shot in Estonia and the UK. The project has been in production since July 2023 and is seeking support for: costs from the shoot and post production. The project is being made by filmmaker and therapist Elmer Postle with the participation of Binnie A.Dansby and the training group 2023-25. In late 2024, we received two generous donations which have furthered the project, significantly.
Audience: we envisage an ‘international public’, audience who are interested in healing, how birth can be learned from, as well as finding out more about breathwork through a highly developed form, the SOURCE model, as a mode of healing.
The three ‘acts’ of the film follow:
1) What is this therapeutic work? Where does it come from? Who is Binnie? How does it work for adults exploring their lives and the delivery of babies? How do we create conditions, in the context of peoples lives, where they can heal spilts and divisions, and profoundly unsafe histories?
2) What do we do in this work? what are the dynamics which form the healing people experience and why? How does the psychology work in this model? When there is a belief and practice of separating babies and mothers at birth, what is that experience for mother and baby?
3) What is the result of doing this? The inclusion of a spiritual connection to ‘oneness’. An opening to connection, a sense of safety and support in what we do which enables us to come more into life.
And this brings us full circle with an understanding about helping the ‘one who wanted to be here in the first place, the soul’, come fully into being human.
– Footage was shot over four trips to Estonia: there are sequences of:
– preparatory meetings,
– a series of seven warm water sessions with and without Binnie facilitating, with men and women both supporting and each as the focus.
– process work / teaching in large and small groups including meditation ‘deepenings’ led by Binnie.
– interviews with participants before, during and after sessions
– a birth with a woman who the film has followed, prior to delivery, through two sessions in the water.
– a series of interviews with Binnie Dansby covering the scope of SOURCE Process and Breathwork,
– footage of the natural elements, the buildings, people and the beauty of the Estonia location.
